“The Man with the plan."
The quote is a common one when referring to someone that knows what they are doing and has a purpose for what they are going to accomplish. It’s a type of a compliment to credit someone with having a set of tasks and a vision for the goals they will achieve. But in the startup life there are too many times when the “plan" becomes so twisted and lost in the myriad of goals the result is as if there is no plan at all. While it may seem like a good idea to make sure you attack the biggest market possible and reach as many people as possible the truth is actually quite different. It is much better to start small and start focused. Research has shown this focused approach will lead to a greater impact and better outcomes. When you work on too many things at once you lose your ability to make progress.
I would suggest that if your plan is too broad you don’t have any plan at all.
